In this material world, we are always being harassed and disturbed by the dualities in life. We are always being confronted by happiness and distress, honor and dishonor, hot and cold.
This material world is full of dualities. We often hear what others like and not like. One has to learn tolerance in the face of dualities such as happiness and distress, or cold and warmth, and by tolerating such dualities become free from anxieties regarding gain and loss.
Usually when we say positive, it refers to the good things of this world. But as long as it is material, it is part of the duality of positive and negative. The positive things of this world do not last very long because positive and negative always take turns. It is like we are going up and down. Like on a seasaw.
We are all eternal spiritual beings. Part of our spiritual nature is to be blissful. Spiritual existence is full of constant happiness and bliss. When we come to this temporary material dimension, we experience not blissfulness. But rather we experience the dualities of material happiness and distress. The fact that it feels wrong to us when we experience suffering, distress and problems should tell us that we are meant to be experiencing a blissful existence without all these problems. Since our eternal nature is to experience lasting happiness and bliss, we are always looking for happiness. No one likes distress. We try our best to avoid this problems and distresses, but they often just show up uninvited and unannounced. It seems there is no way to avoid the rollercoaster of existence in this material world. We cannot just stay up all the time, no matter what our position is in this world. Material happiness and distress go together in this world. But this world is not our real eternal home.
For something to be really positive in the truest sense, it must be spiritual, it must be connected with the Supreme Lord.Thatspiritual positivity will last, and it will give us the changes that we are longing for.
When one is situated in God consciousness, meaning one’s life is an offering to the Supreme Lord, all activities are on the absolute spiritual plane, for they are no longer subject to dualities like good and bad. The spiritual or transcendental plane is very different than this material world. It does not have any dualities like good or bad. Everything is arranged by the Supreme Lord to be perfectly wonderful and ever-increasingly perfect for His enjoyment and the enjoyment of His loving servants. This is our real home.
For a Servant of the Supreme Lord, there is no duality in his mind because everything he does for the pleasure of the Supreme Lord. Being thus freed from the platform of dualities, he is liberated--even in this material world.
